Ruby M. Johnston, PhD.

Ruby Johnston has served as the director of the Institute for Human Services – Canada for 12 years and has over 25 years experience working as a manager, consultant and trainer. Her Masters degree is in Organizational Development and she is pursuing a Doctorate in the same area. She is a church leader, ministry trainer and conference presenter.

Ruby was awarded membership in the Academy of Child and Youth Care Professionals in 1999. In 2000, the Board of Directors of the Ohio Association of Child and Youth Care Professionals gave her the award for Life-Time Achievement and Outstanding Service to Ohio’s Children and Youth.

Ruby specializes in the development of systems, staff, trainers and consultants. She is a trained mediator and leads mediation, change management and conflict resolution initiatives. Her training specialty is in supervision, management and child and youth work.

As a curricula developer, Ruby has authored Jessica, a booklet on Child Sexual Abuse; several modules of the Core Curricula for Foster Parents; Systemic Implications for the Implementation of Foster Care Core, for child-welfare administrators; Conflict Management, developed for Los Angeles County, California; Interpersonal Skills – A Values Approach, developed for Lucas County, Ohio; Training the Trainer; Curricula Design and Format; Individual Training Needs Assessment for Child and Youth Care Professionals; and the 31 day Core Curricula for Child and Youth Care Professionals.

Ruby is also contributing author to the Core Curricula for Supervisors and Managers, and Pre-Service Training for Foster Parents.

Ruby works as a consultant throughout the United States and Canada in both the public and private sector. Her audiences have been government officials, executives, managers supervisors, teachers, caseworkers, child and youth workers, foster parents and adoptive parents. She has worked in 26 states, 5 Canadian provinces and 2 territories.

In 1999, the focus of her work was shifted to working with her church and other churches around her home area. This led to the development of a Leadership series for church leaders. She is the Women’s Ministry Mentor at Mapleview community Church. She has presented ministry training in several states, and in Ukraine. Along with Johanna, Don and Lynn she is co-founder of LAMb International.

Ruby and her husband Lynn live in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. She is a birth parent, an adoptive parent and a former foster parent. They have seven grandchildren.
